How to check the IMD quintile of your home postcode

IMD refers to the Indices of Multiple Deprivation and is a means by which we target additional funding for students who may have experienced barriers to higher education.

To qualify for The UON Fund and/or The Opportunities Fund, your home postcode can be from any of the UK home nations (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland).

For postcodes in England you can use the postcode checker on either the UON Fund or Opportunities Fund pages.

For the rest of the UK – go to the relevant postcode look up:

Visit the NISRA portal and search for your postcode.

On the result screen – look for the “Multiple Deprivation Measure”, which provides a ranking score out of 890.

If your rank is 356 or below, you meet the criteria for this funding.

Visit the Scottish IMD postcode lookup page and download the lookup spreadsheet.

Within the downloaded spreadsheet – enter your postcode into Column A.

If the value in the Column F is 1 or 2, you meet the criteria for this funding.

Visit the Welsh IMD postcode checker and enter your postcode.

The result page will present a ranking score out of 1,909. If your rank is 764 or below, you meet the criteria for this funding.
