Why I chose UON
The University of Northampton ended up being the perfect place for me to move to for my studies, and it is important that you pick the right place for you too, so here are some of the reasons why I chose the University of Northampton.
Campus and accommodation
The University of Northampton is one of the most modern university campuses in the UK. This new campus has everything on site, such as the library, sports facilities and the student union.
It also has new accommodation on site, as well as St Johns accommodation being close to the town centre and Scholars Green which is on the other side of town. There is something for everyone and I loved how everything is either a walk or a bus ride away.
Learning
I also enjoy that the university has smaller class sizes, as this creates a more personal atmosphere during lectures. The courses are career-oriented, look at your future and have a mix of learning and practical skills that can be used beyond university. Most courses support placement opportunities which allows for employment opportunities and experience into the field in which you want to persue in the future.
Supportive and Inclusive community
The university is known for having such a strong community which really influenced my decision. The community is very welcoming to everyone and has created a friendly and diverse learning environment for all.
There are also a wide variety of support services within the university such as mental health support and academic assistance. There is also the ASSIST team that is on site who help students with issues that they may have such as physical disabilities, learning difficulties, and long-term medical conditions.
Northampton town
The University of Northampton is only a 10-15 minute walk from campus which I saw as a huge benefit. Being so close to many shops and supermarkets as well as bars and clubs for socialising means that life outside of studies is never boring. Also, there are a lot of green spaces around such as Delapre Abbey and Becket’s park.
There is also a safe route for when you walk to and from town as well as there being the SafeZone app which you can use if you are in an emergency and need assistance.
Overall, the University of Northampton offers not only for you to achieve a degree, but also offers support and a good social life, which were all important factors for me when choosing where the right place for me to study was.
