Using the International Student Support Services – my experience

Stepping Into a New Country

I was both excited and nervous as an international student making my first trip to the UK. I questioned how I would adjust to the new educational system, everyday life, and cultural norms. Fortunately, this transition was much simpler than I had anticipated, thanks to the University of Northampton’s specialised International Student Support team.

Guidance From the Start

I was given step-by-step instructions as soon as I got my offer letter. I gained a better understanding of visa requirements, accommodation options, what to pack, and expectations thanks to the pre-arrival webinars. The international student welcome week was revolutionary once I got there. I was able to meet other students who shared my situation and gain a better understanding of campus life and local services. Also, during my interview, the interviewer asked me whether I had booked my accommodation. I was confused about the differences between Scholar’s Green and St. John’s Halls. The interviewer explained the differences and mentioned about hurrying up to reserve accommodation as it was likely there could be less spaces available in St. John’s.

Support That Truly Cares

After the first week, the International Student Support Services continued their support. The staff are always available to assist with BRP collection, bank account openings, and university policy comprehension. I particularly valued the drop-in sessions and cultural events that allowed me to voice any worries freely.

They provided me with empathetic and professional support, making me feel truly heard.

Also, after my first week of lectures, I was not able to register my attendance on the UON application; therefore, the IT Service team came in handy, they listened carefully to what problem I was facing was, and later sorted it out quickly.

You won’t have to face obstacles alone at UON if you’re considering studying abroad. Their assistance for international students made coming to UON one of the best choices I have ever made, and it has had a huge impact on my university journey.
