My journey into Occupational Therapy has not been straightforward. I worked in the healthcare sector for many years, but I never imagined pursuing it as a career; my original aspiration was in business and entrepreneurship. When COVID hit, and the world came to a standstill, it gave me the time to reflect on my next chapter. After a lot of thinking, researching, and admittedly some procrastination, I decided to make a bold change. With encouragement from my daughter, I chose to pursue a second degree in Occupational Therapy, a decision I can confidently say is one of the best I have ever made.
This university was always my first choice. What really stood out to me was the supportive learning environment, the excellent facilities, and the strong focus on innovation and entrepreneurship.
The university encourages students to take advantage of opportunities beyond the classroom, and if you truly engage with what is available, it can place you on a completely different platform for your future. One example is that I was selected as a winner of the Enterprise Launchpad programme, which has given me the opportunity to further develop my business idea alongside my studies.
Being a mature student has shown me that it is never too late to change direction and invest in yourself. University life can be challenging, but it is also incredibly rewarding. If you see me around campus or at an open day, please feel free to say hi. I’m always happy to chat and share my experience.
