When I first arrived at the University of Northampton (UON), I felt a mixture of emotions including excitement, anxiety, and optimism.

I felt excited because I was looking forward to decorating my accommodation at the halls of residence on Waterside Campus. I was anxious because I didn’t know anyone else at UON, and I felt optimistic because I thought that as soon as I got settled in and knew my way around the University, the anxiety would leave.

Before I developed a relationship with Jesus, I was a very reserved individual, and an introvert. I used to compare myself to other people, especially those students who had only been at university for three days and already had a huge group of friends that they walked around campus with. How were they doing this?

One day, one of my flatmates, who I met through the UON Facebook page, and I were discussing our faith. She mentioned that there’s a UON Students’ Union society called Kharis On Campus (KOC). KOC is a Christian society that meets every Tuesday at 7pm in the Learning Hub. After joining the society, I not only strengthened my faith, but I also connected with friends who shared my beliefs.

I’m now in my second year and I’m so thankful to the University of Northampton for giving students like myself a variety of societies to choose from.
