Lessons I’ve learned about myself since starting University

10.12.2025University life is about more than just coursework and lectures; it's also about finding your identity. Reetika discovered traits and strengths at the University of Northampton that she was unaware she possessed.
Learning to Believe in Myself
Self-belief is among the most important lessons I’ve learnt since attending the University of Northampton. It was intimidating to move to a new country to pursue my education, but I soon discovered that I am much more resilient than I had previously believed. Every task I’ve finished and every new ability I’ve learnt has given me more self-assurance and demonstrated my greater potential.
The Value of Time Management
I’ve learnt how important time management is from juggling my personal life, part-time job, and uni work. I had trouble keeping up at first, but by being organised and making use of UON’s Support Services, I’ve improved my organisational abilities, which will serve me well after I graduate.
The Power of Community
I’ve learnt how much I can learn from other people’s viewpoints by participating in societies and interacting with peers from around the globe. In addition to influencing my academic path, belonging to a diverse community has improved my outlook on life.
Redefining Strength
Last but not least, I’ve discovered that being strong is about showing up, trying again after failures, and keeping improving rather than about doing everything flawlessly. I’ve learnt at university to welcome obstacles as chances and to acknowledge any advancement, no matter how tiny.

Reetika is studying an MSc in Computing (Software Engineering). Besides studying, she likes to sketch, binge-watch web series, discover Indian cuisine, and unwind in the lovely parks of Northampton.
