What is Student Futures?
Student Futures are a team who are there to guide you through your journey at UON to help you achieve your professional goals and personal growth through personalised advice. Some of the many ways they can help you are with personal development plans, connecting you with various roles to help you gain beneficial experience in your area of interest, CV building and networking skills to help you enter the world of work. The team are also primed to help you when applying and interviewing for jobs you are interested in by tailoring your CV and preparing for interviews.
Student Futures are located on the ground floor of the Learning Hub and can be contacted at studentfutures@northampton.ac.uk.
Student Jobs
As a student, it can be hard to fit work around your schedule to gain these experiences but don’t worry, Student Futures have you covered. Through Unitemps, students can apply for roles ranging from a Student Ambassador to catering roles. Student Ambassadors may assist on open days or other specialised events on campus. The best bit is that you apply for shifts so when you work is relatively flexible around you. Catering roles allow students to work in UON’s catering outlets, gaining key skills to take into the workplace. All student jobs available help you to earn some extra money and develop your transferrable skills.
Placements
Many courses here offer placement opportunities that can give you hands-on experience that gives you insight into the industry that you are interested in. These placements can be short term or can be a year long experience as a placement year. Placements are a great way to apply your knowledge to real situations and decide if that type of career is for you.
The Employability Promise
A key part of Student Futures is the Employability Promise. This is an assurance that if an eligible graduate hasn’t found employment after six months of graduation, UON will give you tailored careers support to boost your CV. If you are still seeking employment after this, the team can help you access paid internships or discounted postgraduate study at UON to further your skills and knowledge.
