Visiting UON on an Open Day

One of the most important things to do before you decide on a university is to visit it during an Open Day to get a better idea of what sort of thing you can expect during your studies.

I actually decided on coming to the University of Northampton after seeing the amazing facilities on offer here.

With that in mind, here’s everything to do and check out at a UON Open Day!

Perhaps the most important thing to do on an open day is speak to the lecturers of the course you’re thinking of studying. You can do this during the course sessions, which take place usually throughout the morning. If you fancy something a bit less formal that answers your questions, consider showing up for a subject drop in! The details for times and locations of these events are usually available on the UON website and the guide guests are given upon arrival.

Two visitors stand at a registration counter talking to a staff member at a UON Open Evening, while two others look on in the background in a brightly lit indoor setting.

Some other events you might not want to miss are the variety of talks that often take place on the ground floor of the Learning Hub or Creative Hub. These talks often include accommodation information, financial guidance, personal statement advice, advice for parents and carers, and much more. If you need a little more information on a specific topic, this is the place to find it! Just check the schedule before you arrive to plan your day around a talk you’d most like to visit.

If you happen to miss the talk, or need a little bit more information on accommodation, you are actually able to visit some of the showrooms on open days, giving you a taste of what student life whilst living on campus actually feels like. This is a great opportunity that I wouldn’t miss if I was at an open day.

Lastly, tours do run for most of the day as well, allowing you to have a nice, guided tour around the Waterside campus for approximately 40 minutes. This is a great opportunity to get familiar with the campus you’ll likely be spending most of your time at before you start studying at University, making the place feel a little more like home! If you want to get familiar with the town centre as well, town tours are also available.

If you require any more information about the University, our open days, or the schedule for one you’re planning on attending, make sure to check out our website!
