Information for partners and apprentices

All you need to know

Invest in the future by bringing in talent that’s just right for your business. It’s simpler than you might think.

  • For Smaller Employers: You may qualify for government funding that covers between 95% and 100% of the apprenticeship training costs.
  • For Large Employers: Utilise your apprenticeship levy to finance the training.

Take the first step towards growing your team with motivated and skilled apprentices.

Unsure which category your organisation falls in to? Small employers are classified as having a pay bill of less than £3m, and large employers are classified as £3m+.

Why Apprenticeships?

Find out all you need to know about the benefits of hiring an apprentice.

Are you interested in apprenticeships for your company?

If you’re unsure about where to start, here’s some guidance about Understanding Apprenticeship Benefits and Funding.

The Apprenticeship Service:

The Apprenticeship Service is a government online service which will allow you to set up and manage your apprenticeships. All apprenticeships in England must be managed through the apprenticeship service and you will need to have an account set up in order to use the service.

By creating an apprenticeship service account, you’ll be able to:

  • access and manage apprenticeship funding
  • set up and approve apprentices
  • advertise apprenticeship roles on the service
  • approve training costs
  • check payments to training providers
  • give training providers permission to carry out some tasks on your behalf

How to create an Account:

To create an account, you will need:

  • an email address
  • permission to add your PAYE schemes to the account
  • permission to accept the employer agreement on behalf of your organisation
  • You will also need either the Government Gateway login for your organisation, or your accounts office reference number (AORN) and employer PAYE scheme reference number.

Useful Information and FAQs

The information below is aimed at employers and apprentices for whom the University of Northampton is their apprenticeship provider.

Contact us

If you have any questions or would like to find out more about any of our apprenticeships, please email apprenticeships@northampton.ac.uk.

If you have any questions or need any further information regarding Apprentice Student Data, including data returns and using the Apprenticeship Service, please contact us at ILR@northampton.ac.uk.

  • Our UK Provider Reference Number (UKPRN) is 10007138.

  • You can contact the Department for Education Apprenticeship helpline on 08000 150 600. Choose option 1 and then option 2. They will be able to help you if you have any questions.

  • To register and set up your account, please visit the Apprenticeship Service.

Once you have registered, you will need to:

    1. Add the PAYE scheme (for levy paying organisations) or Accounts Office Reference number (AORN for non-levy paying organisations) that the apprentices will be paid through.
    2. Add the employer organisations that will contract with the University of Northampton, the training provider.
    3. Add cohorts and apprentices to your account. You can give the University of Northampton permission to do this part for you if you prefer. All information added will still be sent to you for final approval.
  • When you have registered on the Apprenticeship Service, you will then need to create a cohort to add the details of your apprentice(s) on each course. Please go to the Login on the Apprenticeship Service and follow the instructions.

Please Note: When you get to the section entitled, ‘Add an apprentice’, you will be asked to ‘Add training provider details’ and will need a UK Provider Reference Number (UKPRN) for the training organisation.  Our UKPRN is 10007138 (The University of Northampton).

You will also be asked if you would like to add apprentice information yourself or would like us (the training provider) to add this information. We collect this information from apprentices at registration and are very happy to do this part on your behalf.  This allows us to handle the administration whilst you retain control of the information and will approve and authorise all details and payments.

Once complete, you will be prompted to send a message to us. Please include the apprentice names and course in the message. Once we have entered all the apprentice details, we will send the information back to you for checking and approval.
