Welcome to Integrated Foundation Business & Management and Law, Criminology & Criminal Justice pathways 2026.
Welcome to the Integrated Foundation Year for Business & Management and Law, Criminology & Criminal Justice at the University of Northampton.
The Integrated Foundation Year is designed to support you as you begin your university studies and prepare you for progression onto your chosen degree. Throughout the year, you will develop the academic, personal and professional skills you will need for successful study at university, while also exploring your chosen subject area.
You will study three modules across the year. These will help you develop your academic and study skills, build your subject knowledge and apply what you have learned through a project. Although students from different degree routes will share some aspects of the Integrated Foundation Year, your learning and activities will be linked to your chosen subject area.
Teaching will be face-to-face and will include tutor-led sessions, group activities, independent study and opportunities to apply your learning. Your assessments are designed to help you build your skills throughout the year, with opportunities for formative feedback and guidance along the way.
During Welcome Week, you will meet your teaching team and other students, find out more about your course and become familiar with the University and the support available to you.

Preparing for your course
When you arrive at the University of Northampton, there’s plenty to get involved with during Welcome Week. However, there are specific sessions taking place as part of your course induction that’ll help you settle in and prepare for teaching to start the following week.
Teaching begins on Monday 28 September 2026. Please check your UON timetable and NILE regularly during Welcome Week, as activities and times may change.

Monday 21 September
Session: Integrated Foundation Year Welcome and Induction
- Time: 10am–3pm
- Location: SN202, Senate Building, Second Floor
Please arrive at 10am. During the day, you will meet your teaching team, find out more about your course and the Integrated Foundation Year, attend a University Welcome Talk and take part in a campus tour.
Tuesday 22 September
Session: Course and Personal Academic Tutor Activities
- Time: 10am–4pm
- Location: Please check your Welcome Week timetable
The day will include course activities, a Students’ Union and University welcome, followed by Personal Academic Tutor sessions.
Wednesday 23 September
Session: Students’ Union Welcome Activities
- Time: From 10am
- Location: Please check the Students’ Union Welcome Week information
Students can attend the Union Day Sports & Societies Fair from 10am–4pm. Student Visa 101 is also available from 1.30pm–2.30pm for students to whom it applies, and Music Bingo starts at 6.45pm.
Thursday 24 September
Session: Faculty of Business & Law Welcome
- Time: 2 –4pm

This is an opportunity to take part in the wider Faculty of Business & Law welcome activities. Students can also attend the Union Day Sports & Societies Fair from 10am–2pm and the Student Futures Pop-up from 11am–2pm.
Friday 25 September
Session: Students’ Union Welcome Activities
Location: Please check the Students’ Union Welcome Week information
Students can take part in Crafterbrunch from 11am–2pm and the Flat Cap Killer – Murder Mystery from 7–10pm.
Preparation and Pre-Arrival tasks
Before you arrive, please make sure you have completed your university enrolment and can access your university account. You should also check your university email and MyNorthampton regularly for updates about your course and timetable. You do not need to complete any subject-specific academic work before Welcome Week.
Equipment & Uniform
There is no specialist equipment or uniform required for the Integrated Foundation Year. You will need access to a laptop or computer for your studies. Further information about University IT facilities and access to software will be provided during your induction.
Reading Lists
There is no required pre-course reading. Your teaching team will introduce you to relevant reading and learning resources as you begin your modules.
