I felt excited when I started my study at UON as an international student, but I also felt a little overwhelming. When I came to UON for the first time on Welcome Days, I saw a lot of benefits that UON offers to new students to make life easier, more affordable, and less stressful.
Free Resources for Your Studies
I received my student card and university email, which I can access to Library and Learning resources for free. I can use my university email to log into Northampton Electronic Library Search Online (or also known as NELSON) to find books, journal articles, newspapers, and other academic sources for my assignments. I find that it’s very helpful and convenient to find reliable sources for research. I can simply go to campus if I want to borrow, renew, and return physical books by using my student card.
Extra Skills at No Extra Cost
My uni email has another benefit that I really like is free access to LinkedIn Learning and Microsoft Office. It’s significantly useful for me to have LinkedIn Learning with many of short courses that I can choose to build my future careers. While, Microsoft Office is also beneficial for me to work on essays, presentations, and group assignments.
Discounts on Food and Drinks
I was literally shocked and thrilled to discover that students get 10% discount food and drinks at UON catering outlets. I still remember buying a loaded fries and juice at the Waterside Bar, where I was pleasantly surprised to see discount on my receipt. Although it may seem small amount of money, but those savings really add up over time.
Support Beyond the Classroom
I noticed Student Futures when I had my Welcome Week, and I asked them part-time jobs for international students. They offered me Student Ambassador role, and guided me to apply through Unitemps. After I selected as the Student Ambassador, I came to Student Futures again to assist me submit documents and admin process.
