Paula Bowles and Manos Daskalou, Senior Lecturers in Criminology, explore the origins of criminality, reflecting on the age-old question of nature vs nurture.
This session is an interdisciplinary dialogue between social sciences historically and contemporaneously.
Paula Bowles and Manos Daskalou, Senior Lecturers in Criminology, will explore the origins of criminality by reflecting on the age‑old debate of nature Vs nurture. Bringing together insights from related disciplines, we will examine how biological, social, and environmental factors intertwine in the development of criminal behaviour. Through an interdisciplinary dialogue, we will consider shifting explanations of why individuals offend, from early biological determinism to modern social and developmental theories.
This is very likely to be the most intellectually stimulating session you will attend this year, encouraging you to think critically about what drives criminal behaviour and how society responds to it.
