Indices of Multiple Deprivation (IMD)
How to check the IMD quintile of your home postcode
IMD refers to the Indices of Multiple Deprivation and is a means by which we target additional funding for students who may have experienced barriers to higher education; these include The University of Northampton (UON) Fund and The Opportunities Fund.
To qualify for The UON Fund and/ or The Opportunities Fund, your home postcode can be from any of the UK home nations (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland).
To find your postcode, go to the relevant postcode look up:
- England postcode checker
- Scotland postcode checker
- Wales postcode checker
- Northern Ireland postcode checker
Follow the instructions through each relevant country’s IMD postcode checker to find your IMD decile/quintile.
How do deciles link to quintiles?
- IMD Decile 1 or 2 = IMD quintile 1
- IMD Decile 3 or 4 = IMD quintile 2
- IMD Decile 5 or 6 = IMD quintile 3
- IMD Decile 7 or 8 = IMD quintile 4
- IMD Decile 9 or 10 = IMD quintile 5
For the UON Fund, students from IMD quintile 1 and 2 (deciles 1 – 4) qualify for the UON Fund in Year 3 of their undergraduate course. (All undergraduate home students qualify for the Benefits package in year 1.)
For the Opportunities Fund, students from IMD quintile 1 and 2 (deciles 1 – 4) qualify for the Opportunities Fund when studying level 5 (year 2) or level 6 (year 3) of their undergraduate course.
