Benefits of studying at UON

The University of Northampton is great for many reasons, but one of its most prominent strengths is its  focus on preparing students for their future. As a student at UON, there is much to avail yourself of while studying, and if you know about what’s out there for you right here on campus, you can reap a multitude of benefits that will put you ahead after university.

Here’s three ways in which the University of Northampton can help you prepare for your future:

Personal and Professional Development

The University of Northampton is excellent at holding a variety of workshops and training programs, such as seminars and a range of online resources to support students learning in specific areas of interest outside their chosen course or academic content. For example, the University held a seminar focused on supporting UON international students to start working in the UK, with segments to go through their personal CV step by step in a one-to-one meeting with a working professional. And it is all entirely free!

Work-based Learning

One key thing that UON does is intentionally including practice-based learning in several undergraduate and postgraduate courses, through short-term work experience of a few weeks, or long-term placements of up to several years of a course. These components give students a valuable opportunity to exercise their classroom-acquired knowledge in real world settings, helping them to build confidence and obtain useful insights in their line of work outside the textbook.

Postgraduate Opportunities and Networking

UON offers a vast variety of postgraduate courses in different schools of learning, for students wishing to further their studies past their undergraduate degree. These include a range of research degrees for students with a special interest or passion for discovering, uncovering, and contributing knowledge and new findings to their field. Specially, some postgrad courses at UON are offered at a discounted rate for students who have completed their undergraduate degree at UON. Additionally, scholarships and funding are offered by the university and other parties, to support those with dreams to study at postgraduate level. Many of these are helpfully included in the weekly student newsletter.

Other Bonus Support

Awards

The University of Northampton is great for recognising potential, excellence and dedication in students. Awards such as the STAAR Awards which celebrate oustanding students, recognising and showcasing significant student projects, and faculty-specific awards, honouring those who have achieved great success in their fields, all contribute to propelling UON students towards being standout candidates for any career they wish to pursue after university.

The Employability Promise

Finally, just in case you run into any difficulty landing suitable employment after graduation, UON has The Northampton Employability Promise. By achieving a 2.2 or above in your degree along with an achievement of the Employability Plus Gold Award, you are ensured graduate support in finding employment and further (if needed), 3+ months paid internships!
