Thinking of coming to UON?
Applying for university can be a lot if you don’t know what you are doing, here is some advice for applying for the University of Northampton.
Visit an Open Day!
The first bit of advice is to come to an open day and take a look at the course you want to look at (aim to look at 2-4 however can do more or less!), and have a look at differing courses unless it’s a specific niche you would want to go into, it’s important to keep your mind open to different courses.
Contact your lecturers
Email professors, there will be lecturers who will be more than happy for you to email about prospective courses, especially if you’ve had a look at the course material and visited an open day. Typically, at the bottom of the course pages on the University of Northampton website, there will be the lead lecturers with their email attached.
Speak to students at an Open Day
A further extension of the previous point, talk to students about their experiences at the university or their specific course. Having that connection with students will help with the application process making sure that you are making the right decision, asking questions to the students is assurance that you would be making the right decision, it is important that you know what you want to speak to students or lecturers about so that you can get the most out of them, or at least what they can talk about.
Take a look around Northampton town
Explore the town, while it seems obvious, exploring the town will give you a sense of where you are, what’s around you and what you can do, it also helps with accommodation, seeing where the townhouses are situated, where St. John’s is or where Scholars Green is. This will help you be able to understand what type of accommodation is available, where it is, and how you can get to the university,
Explore all of your options
Explore all options available to you, that means looking into the services that are provided/available at the university, which will help you make an informed decision, checking out the library, seeing what ASSIST can offer you, what perks you can apply for, etc.
These are just some of the points that one would need for applying for the university, knowing what to look for, who to talk to and what you want from the university is key to applying for UON.
