Paramedic Science BSc Welcome Pack
Welcome to Paramedic Science BSc (Hons) 2025.
This Paramedic Science course will provide with you a wide range of academic, practical experiences and learning opportunities to equip you with the right skills, knowledge, and competencies to become a registered Paramedic with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
During the course theory content is delivered as a whole cohort of 30 in a classroom type environment. Learning is not just by a ‘traditional lecture’ type environment, but by group work, participation, self-study, group study and pre and post learning opportunities.
Practical sessions are delivered at a ratio of 4 students to 1 tutor. This means that there is plenty of time and opportunity for every student to put into practice their theoretical knowledge in a safe, scenario-based environment, with direct and relevant immediate feedback from a tutor, before going into practice to use these new skills and techniques on real patients.
During placement you will be supported by a Practice Educator (PEd) who will always be on hand to help and support you. As experienced clinicians and PEd’s they will be able to give you time and support when dealing with real life patients but will always be able to ‘step in’ and help if needed. This means that you can feel confident and reassured that the patient will always receive the best possible care.

Equipment
There is no need to buy or have any equipment prior to starting the course. The only piece of equipment you will need by mid-November is a stethoscope. We will advise you which ones to buy once you have started, as they can be very expensive, and we don’t want anyone to spend any money unnecessarily. If you have a questions regarding equipment or costs, please email me using the email address above.
We also subscribe to an app that is used in the Ambulance Service called JRCALC, so there is no need to subscribe to this before or during your course. The library has a vast array of literature, so again please do not feel you have to purchase any books before you arrive.
Your First Week.
The first week of the program will begin on Monday 15 September, with our initial meet-up scheduled for 10am. This allows time for you to complete enrolment and settle into accommodation if required. The week will start with a meet and greet session and some ice breakers to help everyone get to know each other. We will also introduce the first two modules to give you a clear overview of what to expect. In addition, the first two weeks will include essential training sessions such as Safe Breakaway, Mental Health First Aid, and Manual Handling. You will also be fitted and measured for your uniform during this week, as you will be provided all the uniform necessary for placement, this includes your shirts, trousers and soft-shell jacket along with boots, helmet and hi-vis reflective jackets.
