In 2011, Rodrigo began his professional journey qualifying as an Adult and Paediatric Nurse at the University of Malaga, gaining valuable expertise during the following years mainly in elderly care and emergency medicine.
In 2015, he qualified as a Podiatrist from the same university and relocated to the UK to advance his career. He gained experience initially as registered nurse in emergency and paediatrics. In recognition of his outstanding work in paediatrics, he was awarded a Daisy Award. In 2018 he then started working full time as a Specialist Podiatrist at the High risk and Diabetic foot department within the NHFT. He started his career in education in 2020 where he became a lecturer in Podiatric Medicine.
In 2022, he completed specialist training in skin and incisional nail surgery, alongside a steroid injection course. His primary focus is on foot and ankle interventions, including minor surgical procedures for ingrown toenails, verrucae, and skin pathologies. Drawing on his paediatric nursing background, he provides minor foot surgical treatments for anxious children and individuals with autism or learning disabilities.
In 2023, he achieved a Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy, acknowledging his impact in shaping the future of podiatric professionals. He has also been recognised as Flexitol Educator of the Year for his impacts in students.
He is now finishing the Master’s in the Theory of Podiatric Surgery and finalising his Independent Prescribing training, continuing to advance his expertise in both clinical practice and education.
Over the course of 14 years, he has developed a broad and distinguished career, alongside his role as a Senior Lecturer in Podiatric Medicine at the University of Northampton where he serves as 1st year tutor, admissions tutor, and module lead for functional Anatomy and human Physiology, Rodrigo also works as a private Advanced Practitioner in different private practices and is also part of the NHS Podiatric Surgery Department at Danetre Hospital.
