A round-up of mentions of University students and staff in the media over the past week.

Professor of Sustainable Wastes Management Margaret Bates took part in a Guardian roundtable discussion about how we can cut plastic waste, as reported in the newspaper.

Margaret also spoke with BBC Wales about microchipped recycling bins in European countries that monitor the amount people recycle. Listen again here (starts 5m).

The University held a big careers fair last week aimed at encouraging schoolgirls to consider careers in science, engineering, maths or technology. BBC Radio Northampton’s Helen Blaby visited and reported on the event, which was also covered by ITV Anglia (West).

Senior Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing Emma Dillon spoke to BBC Northampton about the University’s collaboration with The Cobblers Community Trust to deliver Mental Health First Aid Training for their staff.

Programme Lead Lucy Atkinson and HR Assistant Jagruti Patel collected more than 500 books in less than a week for local children’s charity KidsAid, as part of their Changemaker Fellowship. Jagruti spoke to BBC Northampton about how they achieved this and what it means for KidsAid.
