Engineering


Engineering is an evolving sector that needs engineers with a wide variety of knowledge and skills.

Our staff have significant industrial experience and use the latest learning and teaching technology. You will be immersed in the multidisciplinary field of engineering by working in our specialist engineering labs, using computer simulation tools, and a mechanical and embedded system design. Our facilities also include our Machine Shop and F1 and Formula E Garage.

Our postgraduate and undergraduate engineering courses cover various areas of the engineering sector – including non-destructive testing, electrical, electromechanical and mechanical engineering and lift engineering.

Our Engineering BSc & Mechanical Engineering BEng degrees are accredited by IMechE under licence from the UK regulator, the Engineering Council.

    • We offer various engineering degrees ranging from Electronic and Computer Engineering to Mechanical Engineering. An engineering degree can give you access to a wide range of careers which can include working within the Aerospace, Automotive, Construction, Defence or Oil and Gas industry.

      Depending on the engineering course you choose, a variety of industry placements are available to ensure you have the practical experience alongside your theoretical knowledge of engineering.

      The University of Northampton has longstanding links with the Northants Engineering Training Partnership (NETP) means that you will have the opportunity to do paid work placements as part of your degree and you will be introduced to key industrial contacts before you’ve even graduated.

    • Our degrees in engineering enable graduates to enter careers in a diverse range of engineering sectors such as manufacturing, automotive, chemical, aeronautical, civil and computer and programming systems.

      Some of our courses offer the option to apply for an additional year and gain a masters degree. For full information, please refer to your specific course.

    • What types of Engineering Degrees are there?

      Here at the University of Northampton, we offer a range of engineering degrees including undergraduate and postgraduate. Some of our most popular degrees in engineering include BEng/MEng Mechanical Engineering, BSc Engineering, BEng Electronics and Computer Engineering & Advanced Design and Manufacturing MSc.

      How long do Engineering Degrees take?

      Depending on the Engineering Degree you study with us will determine the length of your course.

      Our full time undergraduate courses generally take 3 years. If you decide to include a foundation year this will take 4 years. If you choose to study part time, it will take between 4-8 years depending on your chosen course.
