Northampton has many things to offer. We have high energy sports, idyllic rural walks, nationally acclaimed music venues, and historic theatres. There are cute cafes, independent restaurants and friendly pubs. We have regular fairs and street markets and there’s the annual Food and Drink Awards too.

We are home to Premiership Rugby, a purpose-built athletics stadium, Silverstone motor racing track and a white-water rafting centre. The countryside of Northamptonshire offers a network of cycle ways and canals, historic homes and gardens. There’s live music at Roadmender, which has events every week ranging from 80s rock to Reggae club nights, as well as many other bars and clubs in town. There are multiplex cinemas, and the more intimate Forum Cinema, which screens art-house films from around the world and the Errol Flynn Filmhouse and Royal and Derngate Theatre which screens blockbuster and cult films.

Northampton is many things, but it’s definitely not boring.There’s plenty of shopping, with all the high street brands and some inspiring independent boutiques. We have a number of out-of-town retail parks and shopping villages offering convenient shopping locations throughout the county.

  • Northampton has a diverse arts and culture scene including a number of theatre and concert venues. Northampton also boasts many galleries and countless museums, parks, gardens and riverside walks. There is something to interest and inspire everyone.

  • Northampton offers an array of shopping centres and shops, including independent retailers and major high street names. Most days of the week there is an open air market in the town centre held on the historic market square. The market is a bargain hunter’s paradise and there are regular farmers’ markets.

    Northampton itself has many modern facilities including the pedestrianised shopping area of Abington Street and several indoor shopping precincts.

    The Grosvenor Shopping Centre is Northampton’s largest shopping centre and boasts over 60 stores and restaurants including ladieswear, menswear, gifts and novelties.

    From an interesting and varied selection of smaller shops to large high street names, the Grosvenor Centre provides a wide selection of attractive goods to cater for the whole family.

    The Grosvenor Centre is open seven days a week. Plenty of parking spaces can be found in the Grosvenor Car Park with easy access to the shops.

  • Northamptonshire is home to several top sports teams, with regular football, rugby and cricket matches taking place near to the university.


    Northampton Saints Rugby Club is one of the top premiership clubs in the country. The club has a strong reputation at national and international level and features world class players.

    The Northampton Saints play at Franklin’s Gardens, a world renowned venue close to Northampton town centre.


    Northampton Town Football Club play at Sixfields, a purpose built athletics stadium surrounded by leisure amenities including restaurants and a cinema.


    Northamptonshire County Cricket Club play their County Championship and Sunday League matches at the County Ground, situated very near to both university campuses.

    Motor racing

    Northamptonshire is home to the Silverstone Circuit. Silverstone hosts the British Grand Prix as well as many other high profile events. There is also Rockingham Motor Speedway and Santa Pod Raceway which offers a range of drag racing events.

    Other sports

    The area has excellent golfing facilities, including the PGA course at Collingtree. There are also many equestrian and country activities, and several excellent water sports centres, such as the Nene Whitewater Centre, for sailing, waterskiing and canoeing.
