Welcoming our newest Visiting Professor

Date 24.04.2026

A new academic will focus on public policy after nearly two decades of government experience.

Now a Visiting Professor at the University of Northampton (UON), Ishtiaq Hussain, who currently serves in a senior government role, also has an OBE for services to public life in the 2023 King’s Birthday Honours.

He has over 15 years in senior leadership experience across government, including the Department for Education, Ministry of Justice and Home Office.

His work is concentrated on shaping national strategy for counter-extremism, race and ethnic disparities in the criminal justice system, social cohesion and institutional resilience.

Visiting Professor Ishtiaq Hussain said: “I’m extremely pleased to take on my new role with the University of Northampton. My contributions here will focus on taking my academic and professional interests to bring practical perspectives into relevant academic work.

“It will also provide a significant opportunity for me to support the exchange of insight between practice and academia, informed by my experience in government.”
