Date 23.05.2022

The first ‘movie and TV Glastonbury’ for the county took place this weekend, and University of Northampton (UON) laid out the red carpet for visitors.

The Northants Film and TV Expo was part of the annual, Screen Northants Northampton Film Festival and the week-long series of activities a screening of Alan Moore’s The Show, screenings of short films produced by people associated with UON, as well as the Expo hosted at Waterside campus.

The Expo included a careers fair held in the Learning Hub on campus, with industry Q&As and a chance for guests to chat with students from UON’s various screen-based degrees about their backgrounds, studies and gave practical demonstrations of their courses.

The aim of the Expo was to galvanise the established industry locally, raise awareness of current opportunities in film, television and associated industries, and demystify careers in the industry for those who are newer to it.

Exhibitors included Creative England, The National Film & Television School, special effects company Artem, and The Association of Motion Picture Sound.

Anthony Stepniak – Senior Lecturer in Media and Cultural Theory – was with his students at the Expo and said: “It was a fantastic day at the Expo, an opportunity to showcase the many screen-based programmes we have at the University of Northampton. Our students were very busy explaining – and showing! – what they do to our guests.

“There are so many professional opportunities in the sector it can be a little overwhelming, but we are ideally placed at UON to help people get started. If you want to find out more, feel free to come along to our next University Open Day on Friday 24 June.”
