‘Tis the season for a student Art Exhibition

Date 3.12.2019

To celebrate the Royal & Derngate’s festive show, ‘The Season’ – a musical tale of a Northamptonian in New York, at Christmas – students from the University of Northampton had the opportunity to display their original artwork at the theatre.

The students were challenged, by the University’s Residential Life team, to take inspiration from the festive story to create original artwork, which was exhibited during the run of the stage show. In total ten students submitted pieces for the exhibition.

The exhibition was the brainchild of Diana-Andreea Beldeanu, the Arts Coordinator within the Residential Life Team and is the first in a series of joint exhibitions with the Royal and Derngate. Speaking about the project, she said: “A celebration of the festive period came early for the Residential Life Team, Fine Art, Painting and Drawing students and members of the public, with this exhibition.”

“I was pleased that so many students submitted pieces to go on show, these have all taken time and effort to create, and the standard of the work was very impressive. People seeing ‘The Season’ were interested in the artwork, and the staff at the theatre were impressed. I’m delighted to say that we’ve got plans for more exhibitions for 2020.”

As part of the new partnership with the Royal & Derngate, UON students were offered an exclusive ticket deal to see the show – which sold out within a matter of days.

The artists involved are: Sandhya Ale, Carolina Cintra, Allegra Fanti, Funke Faneye, Jacob Mawby, Valeria Medici, Beth Michel, Stephen Price, Jaylen Smith and Helen York.
