Sports facilities at Waterside Campus reshaped

Date 27.07.2016

The University has taken the decision to reshape the sporting facilities proposed for the Waterside Campus and is about to submit a revised planning application to Northampton Borough Council.

A key driver in the development of the Waterside Campus has always been the further integration of the University within Northampton town, and the decision taken to negotiate third party, off-campus access to specialist sporting facilities is just one of many ways we are working to build greater relationships with the local community.

After careful consideration, the scope for the sports facilities and specialist teaching sports teaching spaces located on the Waterside Campus has been revised. The initial plans for the Waterside Campus were first revealed in October 2014. Since then considerable work with the architects and building contractors has been necessary to refine the development plans. These revisions have been necessary to develop a campus best suited to the evolving requirements of the University, while maintaining the development schedule.

The revised proposals detail the on-campus provision of three Multi-Use Games Areas and a floodlit all-weather pitch, alongside a sports pavilion which will provide showering, changing and sports storage facilities.

To complement the on-campus provision, the University is in negotiations with a third party provider to offer our students and staff access to further sports facilities, including a gym in close proximity to the Campus. The University will announce details once negotiations are complete.
