Research Excellence Framework 2014

Date 13.11.2015

We are very pleased to announce that the University successfully submitted to HEFCE’s Research Excellence Framework 2014 exercise on Thursday 28 November.  We have submitted to 9 Units of Assessment with 107 staff, 344 individual research outputs, 18 Impact Case Studies, 87 PhD student completions and £6,749,246 of research income to represent the vitality, sustainability, originality, and above all, excellence of our research conducted between 2008 and 2013.

The submission is now with HEFCE and will be assessed by panels of academics through 2014 to determine the excellence of our research, which will be used for benchmarking and rankings in league table positions, and to calculate how much quality related (QR) income we will receive from HEFCE. The results will be published in early 2015.

Compiling the submission has taken a huge amount of effort from every person involved.  There are too many people to name individually, but our thanks go to everyone who has been submitted or considered for entry; our Unit of Assessment Leaders and their support teams, including those who took responsibility for writing Impact Case Studies; our Critical Reading Panel; the NECTAR team; the Graduate School; the School Accountants and Finance team; and members of HR and Marketing.  Very special thanks, however, are extended to The REF Team, Tricia Powell, Lynn Hodgkiss, Katie Jones and Professor Jon Stobart, who have led and coordinated the submission.
