Praise for teams supporting students living in halls

News Page 26th May 2020

Our Director of Student & Academic Services has praised the on-campus teams that have been looking out for students who are living in halls.

Kathryn Kendon spoke about the support being offered to students at Waterside when she became the latest UON senior figure to be interviewed by NLive Radio.

Watch a video clip of the interview:

Kathryn said: “Our counselling and mental health teams have been offering virtual drop-ins for students and have been running their regular appointments with students online. Our ASSIST team, that supports students with additional needs, has been working really hard with students that have been accessing their learning and teaching remotely, they’ve been attending those virtual sessions with students and have been continuing to offer the mentoring and other support to students at a distance.”

She added: “We’ve also implemented a new hardship fund that is available to students who, because of Covid-19, have hit financial difficulty. The team has processed over 200 applications to that fund so far, and given students around £70,000.”
