The next generation of artists, designers, performers and creative professionals will showcase their work to the public this month as the University of Northampton hosts its annual Degree Show.
Opening on Thursday 18 June, the exhibition will celebrate the achievements of final-year students from the Faculty of Education, Arts, Science and Technology, offering visitors a chance to explore a diverse range of projects spanning art, design, technology, media and performance.
The six-day event will transform locations across the University’s Waterside Campus into exhibition spaces, with students presenting the culmination of three years of study through innovative and industry-focused work.
One of the highlights of the programme will be the Final Year Fashion Show, which returns to the Learning Hub on Thursday 18 June. Fashion students will unveil their latest collections during two catwalk shows at 12.30pm and 6.30pm, attended by family, friends, industry guests and members of the public.
Visitors attending the opening evening, taking place from 6pm to 9pm, will also be able to experience live demonstrations from students on the Hair, Makeup and Prosthetics for Stage and Screen course. Alongside displays of their major projects, students will showcase specialist makeup and prosthetic techniques in real time.
The celebrations continue later in the month as Acting students bring Shakespeare to Waterside Campus through the popular Shakespeare on the Lawn performances. This year’s productions of ‘A Midsummer’s Night Dream’ and ‘As You Like It’ will be staged on Goose Green, with performances scheduled for 12.30pm and 7pm on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 June, as well as 2pm and 7pm on Saturday 20 June.
Exhibitions featuring Fine Art, Fine Art Painting and Drawing, and Popular Music students will be housed in the Development Hub, while displays from other courses will be located within the Creative Hub.
Dean of the Faculty of Education, Arts, Science and Technology, Dr Natalie Garrett-Brown, said: “Our graduating students continue to impress us with their creativity, ambition and innovation.
“The Degree Show is a fantastic opportunity for the public to experience the breadth of talent emerging from the University and to see first-hand how students are shaping the future of the creative industries.”
The Degree Show will run from Thursday 18 June to Tuesday 23 June, opening daily from 10am until 4pm at the University of Northampton’s Waterside Campus.
