National award shortlisting for UON’s approach to sustainability

Date 1.06.2023

Good news continues to follow the University’s successful, first gathering of like-minded people dedicated to tackling key sustainability challenges.

Held earlier this month, the Sustainability Summit saw more than 150 delegates from over 40 different businesses, charities, HEI’s and local authorities share their sustainability challenges to create an action plan to address them.

With the Northampton Sustainability Accord, these partners and the University have committed to being part of the solution to improving sustainability across the county, and to monitor their progress in pursuing shared sustainability goals.

As part of this, in time a new Sustainability Local Innovation & Partnership Agenda Hub – ‘SLIPAH’ – will be created.

Hot on the heels of the event, the University’s energies have been tipped for national recognition, shortlisted for a nomination at the Innovation Awards.

The University is in the running to be named Sustainability Innovation Champion (Organisation Sector) in recognition of the model applied following the Summit. Voting remains open until Friday 2 June.

Associate Professor in International Sustainable Development Law and Co-Chair of the Sustainability Summit, Dr Ebenezer Laryea said: “Although the ink is only just dry on the Northampton Sustainability Accord, its potential impact is clear to see. It is already held in high regard by our stakeholders, and we are already forming plans to develop this over the coming months.

“The nomination for an Innovation Award is a wonderful recognition of this, and we hope people who support the long-lasting legacy of the Summit and the Accord will vote for us.”
