National award nomination for UON Facilities team

Date 22.02.2023

The commitment of one University of Northampton team who kept our buildings gleaming through the pandemic could see them net a national award.

Facilities Services cover provision of all facilities services across both academic and residences buildings ensuring our campus looking spick and span.

When universities reopened for face-to-face teaching during the pandemic, UON established thorough hygiene measures to ensure a safe, clean estate for staff and students.

The University’s approach to cleaning needed to be standardised in line with industry-wide, global cleaning practices. To achieve this, the University rolled out training for cleaning and hygiene staff approved by the British Institute for Cleaning Science; 110 staff members have achieved their national foundation level and licence from the Institute.

The team’s sterling commitment to the highest UK standards has been recognised with a nomination as the annual AUDE (Association of University Directors of Estates) Facilities team of the Year Award.

The winner will be announced on Wednesday 5 April. Hamid Ghadry, Facilities Service Manager, says: “We are surprised and humbled to receive recognition for doing a good job well, and the good work continues.

“We’ve rolled-out this training to some of our staff members and will continue to improve the campus experience for all campus users, develop our facilities staff and their careers, and make UON the star of this area of the higher education sector.”
