The University of Northampton is committed to developing international partnerships to offer our students, and those in partner organisations a global student experience. We are pleased to announce that the Institute of Creative Leather Technology has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) Almaty University in Kazakhstan.

Baurzhan Kulzhabayev, Rector of Almaty University said: “I had heard lots about the University of Northampton and its Institute of Creative Leather Technology and I was very keen to visit the UK and learn more. The Leather Industry in Kazakhstan is developing, we are rich in raw materials, but need to develop a strategy to educate young people in order to develop for the future.

The Almaty University are spending three days with the Rachel Garwood, Director of the Institute of Creative Leather Technology to learn more about the way in which the on campus tannery operates.

Rachel said: “The Institute of Creative Leather Technology has an international reach, with students from all over the world studying here, each bringing a unique approach to leather technology. Our Alumni students have real influence in the global leather industry, with one running one of Kazakhstan’s two tanneries. I look forward to working with colleagues from the Almaty University to develop a successful partnership.”
