Emeritus Professor Eunice Lumsden received an OBE in the King’s Birthday Honours, as reported by BBC Online and mentioned by BBC Radio Northampton and during Heart FM bulletins, Northampton and Bedford stations (listen again links not available). Her story, alongside other early years/early childhood leaders, features in Nursery Management Today and in Community Care about fellow social work honours recipients.

Should Keir Starmer make way for Andy Burnham, following the latter’s by-election win in Makerfield? Senior Lecturer in Journalism and former Westminster Correspondent Kate Ironside gave her take on the latest Westminster rumblings to BBC Radio Three Counties’ Liz Flower. Kate was back on the airwaves, this time for Heart FM Bedford and Northampton, again talking about Keir Starmer’s increasingly precarious prime ministerial position.

Dr Anthony Stepniak, Senior Lecturer in Media & Cultural Theory, spoke to BBC Radio Northampton giving his views about the Government’s planned social media ban for children and young people. Listen again (starts at 2hrs and 20mins).

Dr Phillippa Bennett, Senior Lecturer in English & Creative Writing, returned to BBC Radio Northampton’s Book Club to add her thoughts about the merits of the current selection, Anthony Horowitz’s Magpie Murders. New research from the University’s Institute for Public Safety, Crime and Justice suggests that more can be done to identify and address underlying needs to help prevent exclusion for children in Bedfordshire exhibiting ‘severe, disruptive behaviour’. The news was reported by several publications including Bedford Today.

This week sees the start of Fuelling Innovation Fortnight, two-weeks of discussions, talks, workshops and insights about how county businesses can develop. The programme of events was reported by the Northamptonshire Telegraph.

The annual Northampton Legal Walk – joined by members of the University’s Law team – raised £4,795 to support free legal advice services across the county, as reported by the Chamber of Commerce.
