This week’s roundup of University news stories.

 

Vice Chancellor Nick Petford was interviewed by BBC Radio Northampton discussing how Brexit is having an impact on research at the University. He referenced one project in which the University’s involvement was declined due to uncertainties about the UK leaving the EU from other European countries.

An Open Letter, co-signed by Faculty Deans Dr Helen Scott and Dr Steve O’Brien, protesting about how services for children and adults will be affected by Northamptonshire County Council cuts was published in several local newspapers and across local radio.

Drew Gray, features in the latest BBC History Magazine special edition on Crime and Punishment: 10 trials that gripped the nation.

The Chronicle and Echo’s continued to run coverage, including letters from readers, about their campaign to have the number 19 bus route reinstated.

The University’s Searchlight Archive team’s work was featured on BBC Radio Northampton. The recollections of people living and working in Wellingborough who have experienced racism were heard.

The Chronicle and Echo report on the new, state-of-the-art training facilities in the University’s Waterside Nursing Suite, which includes modern mannequins and Virtual reality goggles. Vice Chancellor Nick Petford himself had a go at being a nurse.

The first of a planned chain of ‘£5 Shop’ opened in Abington Street. James Blackmore-Wright, Head of Partnership Programmes, was interviewed on 15 October by BBC Look East about what this means for high street retail and said that there was “certainly room (for it) as consumers move increasingly from clicks to bricks”, move from online to physical shopping.

Julie King, Subject Lead for Fashion, was interviewed by BBC Radio Leicester on 16 October about how pregnant celebrities use clothes to hide their baby ‘bump’, such as the Duchess of Sussex.

Psychology graduate Megan Partridge’s mental health themed gift-box company re-launched on World Mental Health Day on 10 October. Her work was reported in the Lynn News.

The Evening Standard reported on the deaths of two young Sport studies students over the weekend in separate stabbing incidents. One of the victims was a former student at University of Northampton.
