A round up of media coverage of the University, our graduates, staff and students.

After Labour lost seats at the recent Local Elections, Downing Street has been a hive of activity. Senior Lecturer in Media and Journalism Kate Ironside was keeping up to speed with everything:

  • Kate started by asking whether Keir Starmer was on a final warning? Kate was across BBC local radio and ITV Anglia News discussing what could be next for the Prime Minister. Listen back to her interview with BBC Radio Leicester (starts at 1hr and 10mins).
  • As members of Starmer’s cabinet issued him with criticisms or resignations, Kate updated BBC Radio, including Coventry and Warwickshire, again to give her expert take on the developing situation. Listen back here (starts at 16mins and 30 secs).
  • With ministerial changes and more at the end of the week, Kate was back on the air with BBC Radio Coventry and Warwickshire. Listen back (starts at 1hr and 18mins).

Kate was also on the TV – with ITV Anglia News – giving her expert take on a story about being able to spot fake news on social media (watch again link has expired).

Dr Patrice Seuwou, Associate Professor in Learning and Teaching, added his thoughts to a Times Higher Education article about the possible workforce impacts university staff feel artificial intelligence could have.

The University and local partners will start the 2026 Fuelling Innovation campaign in June. This is a two-week initiative bringing together businesses from across the region to share ideas, build connections and explore opportunities that can support long-term business growth and development. The news is reported by Business Times Northamptonshire.

Pupils from Eastfield Academy in Northampton were crowned winners of the East Midlands regional final of School Tasking – based on the TV show Taskmaster, held at the University recently and reported by the Midlands Gazette.

Local company Alchemy VA has worked closely with organisations in the county, including the University, to deliver funded virtual assistant support to local businesses, as reported by the Daventry Express.

Mike Reader, Northampton South MP, praised UON’s latest graduates following last month’s Graduation ceremonies in his latest article for the Chronicle & Echo.

Senior Lecturer in Social Work Lesley McCole gave a talk about her job, as reported by the Stamford Mercury (weblink not available).

Edna Ann Quarshie, who will soon graduate with a Master’s degree in Business Analytics, analysed the Cobblers’ ticketing and revenue data for the club and presented her findings to senior executives at Sixfields Stadium. Her story features on the Greatest Hits Radio website.

The Translogistics website reports that the University-hosted Northamptonshire Logistics Industry Forum for the county will be chaired by sector leader Claire Bottle.

Following marches in London at the weekend Professor of History of Radicalism and Extremism, Paul Jackson is cited in this Aljazeera feature exploring the history of the term ‘far right’ and how the march reflects the state of politics in Europe at the current moment.
