Church scandal exposé to be screened at Waterside

Date 4.10.2018

A cinematic exposé of the Roman Catholic church’s role in covering up US abuse scandals will be screened at the University of Northampton in a fundraiser for a journalist protection charity.

Spotlight tells the story of the Boston Globe newspaper’s investigation into how the church covered up abuse crimes for decades, shielding priests from criminal prosecution while offering no protection or comfort to hundreds of victims.

The film will be shown at Waterside Campus on Thursday 11 October, with proceeds going to Reporters Without Borders, a Paris-based charity which campaigns to protect journalists around the world.

The event will include an explanatory talk by Ted Sullivan, a former Lecturer in Journalism at the University, who has interviewed the editor of the Boston Globe.

The event runs from 6pm to 9pm on Thursday 11 October in Room 17, on the ground floor of the Learning Hub, Waterside Campus, NN1 5PH.

Entry is £5 and you can book in advance by contacting Di Hayes by emailing phonedianeaudrey.hayes@gmail.com or calling 01604 770482.

Please note there is no parking for students or the public on campus for this event.
