Chancellor’s Fund helps graduate’s ambitions get off the ground with field-trip to China

A University of Northampton Occupational Therapy graduate has spoken about the opportunities available to her since being awarded a university scholarship.
Rachel Shin, a first class honours Occupational Therapy (OT) graduate, was awarded the Chancellor’s Fund to support a field trip to Hengyang, China to work with International China Concern (ICC).
ICC’s aim is to work with the Chinese government to establish care, fostering and adoption pathways for abandoned, disabled children.
The money awarded went towards Rachel’s visa and paid for part of her flight, the rest of the trip being funded out of her own pocket.
Rachel will use the insight and experience gained during this visit to inform her dream career as a Paediatric Occupational Therapist.
Commenting on her trip Rachel, who currently works as a Specialist OT at Bedford Hospital Neuro Therapy Team, said: “As a mother to three lively children myself, it was a pleasure for me to visit one of the ICC centres and to work alongside local and international staff to provide Occupational Therapy to the children.
“The experience I gained during my excellent course at University of Northampton is growing and I hope to one day incorporate all of my skills to work within paediatric OT.”
