Careers webinars for the community

People across the county who have faced or could face employment problems caused by the pandemic can start ‘starting over’ with free careers webinars from University of Northampton (UON) experts.

The sessions start on Wednesday 27 January, will run over four weeks and are open to people of all ages and professional levels.

Particularly welcome are people who have been or could be furloughed or made redundant following coronavirus and who need extra support or confidence re-entering the job market.

Those taking part will receive general advice and help about how to upskill, to start or develop their own business or if they plan a return to education. Attendees will have the chance to ask questions throughout the sessions and the agenda includes:

• Demystifying self-employment (Saturday 30 January, 10-11am)
• How to find business customers/marketing basics (Wednesday 10 February, 12-1pm)
• CV skills and applying for jobs (Saturday 13 February, 12-1pm)
• Returning to education (Saturday 6 February, 10-11am and Wednesday 17 February, 12-1pm)
• Job interview skills (Wednesday 17 February, 7-8pm)

The webinars can be taken in addition to support already offered through organisations such as the National Careers Service and they will be hosted by UON careers experts and accredited business advisers.

Mark Blaber, Head of Careers & Employability at UON, said: “At the University, we put a lot of energy into getting the careers of our students off the ground. But the pandemic has had the Employability team thinking about how we can direct some of that toward our community across the town and county.

“It doesn’t matter who you are, whether you want to start something completely new from scratch or if you need a little help to keep what you have going or to make it better, we have a great team of people on hand who are looking forward to getting you on the right road.”
