Business development and support expert one of four new Honorary Fellows at University of Northampton

The University of Northampton (UON) is a vibrant institution with over 14,000 students and a commitment to deliver excellence not just in teaching but in areas such as supporting local businesses.

At last week’s spring Graduation ceremonies, one leading member of the community – who also supports local businesses – was recognised for her achievements in the community and voluntary sector.

The Honorary Fellowship is a prestigious title awarded by universities or professional bodies to individuals who have achieved distinction, made outstanding contributions to their field and/or provided exceptional service to an institution.

Honorary Fellowships were conferred on Delapre Abbey Chief Executive, Richard Clinton, Higher Education consultant and public speaker Nathan Ghann, former UON Board member Dr Sue Dutton and charity chair Rachel Mallows, MBE.

Rachel started her own business in the 1980’s, The Mallows Company, which has enabled her toHonorary Fellow Rachel Mallows, MBE volunteer for a range of organisations including Chair of the Northamptonshire Community Foundation and the Northamptonshire Tourism Business Network as well as co-chair of the national Network of Women Chairs.

Rachel’s leadership and commitment to community have made her a respected figure in Northamptonshire and earned her recognition that includes and MBE for services to Business and Entrepreneurship in the Queen’s 90th Birthday Honours List in 2016.

Rachel said: “I am truly honoured to be recognised by the University of Northampton. It is a university with a strong sense of purpose and place and I am proud to be associated with an institution that is committed to making a positive difference for its students, its community and the wider society.”

More than 1,300 of the University’s former students crossed the stage at Royal & Derngate theatre during three days of events. They were supported by more than 3,500 family and friends and Rachel’s ‘fellow Fellows’ also welcomed their honorary titles.

Richard Clinton: “I am incredibly grateful for this recognition. The University of Northampton has built a reputation for ambition, innovation and civic responsibility and it is an honour to be acknowledged by an institution that is so clearly focused on impact and the future.”

Nathan Ghann: “This Honorary Fellowship is not just a personal honour but a reflection of the collective effort of so many people committed to positive change. The University’s values strongly align with my own and I am delighted to continue this relationship and thereby supporting its work and its students in the years ahead.”

Sue Dutton: “I am deeply honoured to receive this Fellowship from the University of Northampton. It has been a great privilege serving as a governor and witnessing the transformative impact the University has on its students and the local community. I’m delighted to be able to maintain my links with this remarkable institution.”
