Black Lives Matter: #amplifymelanatedvoices

Date 11.06.2020

The University of Northampton Criminology team have spent the last week dedicating their blog to amplifying the voices of black bloggers.

In a series of blog posts from staff and students, past and present, sharing reaction to the killing of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter protests in Northampton, the UK and around the world.

The blog explores race related issues from a wide range of lived experiences, academic perspectives around race related issues and aims to educate and start a more meaningful dialogue.

Speaking about the decision to take part in the #amplifymelanatedvoices initiative, Senior Lecturer in Criminology, Paula Bowles said: “We recognise that taking part in the #amplifymelanatedvoices is a tiny gesture, and that everyone can and should do better in the fight against white supremacy, racist ideology and individual and institutional violences.

“Although this particular initiative has come to an end, the Thoughts from the Criminology Team blog retains its ethos, which is ‘to provide an inclusive space to explore a diversity of subjects, from a diverse range of standpoints’.

“We hope all of our bloggers continue to write for us for many years, but there is plenty of room for new voices.”
