Buy this thing! Your life will be better! Upgrade! Spend! Buy! Buy! Buy!

Simon Sneddon, Professor of Learning and Teaching Innovation at UON.

Whether on social media, tv and radio, print media or just walking down the high street, we are constantly bombarded with messages encouraging us to buy the latest thing, to upgrade our phones to the funky new model, to jet off to new ‘exclusive’ locations on holiday and so on. These things do not make you cool. They make other people very rich. At the same time, we are told to feel guilty about food waste, e-waste, fashion waste, packaging waste, exploitation of workers, emissions and environmental damage.

This talk will not solve this.

What it will do is identify a couple of ways to refocus consumption so that it is more ethical and sustainable, which is better on your wallet and your conscience.
