Staff Profile - Paul Morrison

Paul Morrison originally trained as a professional dancer at Laine Theatre Arts, graduating with a Diploma in Professional Theatre Training and achieving a Distinction in the Associate Teaching Qualification (Modern Theatre) with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD). 

He subsequently enjoyed an extensive career in theatre and television, with credits including the Royal Variety Performance, VE Day Gala, Top of the Pops, and the Brit Awards. Alongside his performance career, Paul established a strong reputation as a choreographer, working across Europe, Asia, and North America. 

Building on his performance and choreography experience, Paul developed an extensive portfolio of work as a director/movement director in both professional and higher education settings. His directing credits include productions of Stephen Berkoff’s The Trial and Vivienne Franzmann’s Mogadishu, alongside numerous devised and contemporary theatre projects. He has also directed, staged and choreographed a wide range of musical theatre productions and led undergraduate productions, including Kander & Ebbs Cabaret & Chicago and Jonathan Larson’s Rent.

To strengthen his expertise in education and training, Paul gained a Certificate in Education in 2006. He later completed a Master of Arts in Theatre Directing at Royal Holloway, University of London, where he trained with the internationally acclaimed director Katie Mitchell. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). 

Paul specialises in actor movement training, movement direction, and choreography, with expertise in Lecoq-based movement practice, Laban Movement Analysis, neutral mask, Commedia dell’Arte, physical theatre, ensemble devising, and movement for stage and screen. 

He is currently Course Leader for BA Acting and Senior Lecturer in Acting and Drama at the University of Northampton, where he teaches across acting, movement, directing, and performance-making disciplines while contributing to curriculum design and academic leadership.

Paul looks forward to continuing to teach and mentor emerging actors, theatre makers, and creative practitioners, supporting them to develop the skills, confidence, and artistic curiosity needed to thrive in the contemporary performance industry.
