Staff Profile - Kiran Kaur

Dr Kiran Kaur is a Senior Lecturer in Business Management within the School of Strategy, Management and International Business at the University of Northampton. She joined the Faculty of Business and Law in 2022 and teaches across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate business courses, specialising in business management, international business, employability, and professional development.

Kiran is the Course Leader for the BA (Hons) International Business Management programme and serves as the School’s Careers and Employability Lead. She is passionate about ensuring that students graduate with the knowledge, skills, and industry experience needed to succeed in an increasingly competitive global marketplace. Her teaching philosophy centres on bringing business education to life through authentic, real-world learning experiences, industry engagement, business consultancy projects, and international opportunities.

Alongside her teaching responsibilities, Kiran supervises undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations/projects, supervises doctoral researchers, and acts as an Academic Integrity Officer within the Faculty. She also contributes to student casework and academic misconduct panels, supporting the University’s commitment to maintaining the highest academic standards.

A strong advocate for experiential learning, Kiran has led a number of international study visits and employability-focused initiatives. Recent study trips have included Turkey, India, Belgium, and Germany, providing students with valuable opportunities to explore international business environments, develop global perspectives, and enhance their cultural intelligence. She is also actively involved in developing partnerships between the University and external organisations, creating opportunities for students to engage with live business challenges, consultancy projects, and professional networking activities.

Prior to joining the University of Northampton, Kiran held teaching and research positions at De Montfort University, Leicester. She completed her PhD in Family Business in 2021 and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (PGCert), Postgraduate Certificate in Research Degree Supervision, and Fellowship recognition of Advance HE.

Her research interests span two key areas. The first focuses on learning and teaching enhancement, particularly the integration of employability within the curriculum, innovative pedagogical approaches, authentic assessment, and strategies that improve student engagement and success. The second centres on entrepreneurship and small business management, with particular interests in family businesses, ethnic minority women entrepreneurs, micro and small-sized enterprises, and entrepreneurial development. She has presented her research at national and international conferences and remains committed to generating research that delivers both academic and practical impact.

Above all, Kiran is passionate about helping students realise their potential, build confidence, and develop into socially responsible, globally aware, and career-ready business professionals.
