Staff Profile

  • Karen manages the Social Care team for the following programmes: Social Care and Community Practice, Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care, the Top-up degree, the Accelerated degree in Applied Social Care and Health and the MA in Youth and Community Leadership.  Karen is a qualified and practising Counsellor and has a number of years of experience of working in the field of homelessness.

     

  • Karen teaches across all the programmes, though her specialities are mental health, identity and housing.

  • Karen is currently researching the lived experiences of authenticity in male adolescents and parents of male adolescents.  Karen’s interest stems from the rise in mental illness and suicide in male adolescents and research which suggests that being more authentic can reduce mental illness. Karen is researching what teenage males understand by authenticity and whether it is something that they regard as important.
