  • James’ academic background is rooted in the Social Sciences, successfully securing: an undergraduate degree in BA (hons.) Sociology (from what was Nene University College Northampton (NUCN) between 1998/2001); an MA in Social & Political Thought (from the University of Warwick (UOW) between 2002/2004); and an MA in Social Research Methods (from the UOW between 2011/2013) – where he was awarded a distinction as well as the Margaret Archer Prize for best social science dissertation.

  • James’ PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education (from Oxford Brookes, secured between 2006/2007), and his expertise in social science theory and research/practice, provides an excellent foundation for his teaching. He has taught social science at both Higher Education (HE – including undergraduate and postgraduate) level at the University of Northampton (UON), and Further Education (FE) level at Northampton College (NC) for around 20 years; working on different programmes for a variety of social science subjects/teams – including sociology, criminology, politics, media and psychology; re-validating/reviewing the Ba (hons.) Sociology programme and validating an MSc in Public Sociology, both at the University of Northampton; and creating, developing, coordinating, delivering and assessing an extensive range of different general and specialist modules. James was Head of Sociology at NC between 2008-2011, has been a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for UON Sociology since 2016, and has been Deputy Subject Leader for the UON Psychology and Sociology Subject Group since 2018. He receives consistently excellent student feedback and has a high score on rate my lecturer.

  • James is currently undertaking a part-time doctorate/PhD in sociology at the UON – focusing on an Astro-sociology of the Future of the NewSpace Race.

    His academic interests concern Social Theory, Social Research Methods, the Sociology of the Future, Futures Studies, Science Fiction Studies, and Astro-Sociology.
