Staff Profile

  • Emma holds a BA in Sociology from the University of Northampton and an MA in Sociology from the University of Sheffield. Her past research projects have explored queer engagements with astrology, and gender essentialism within the ‘divine feminine’ trend on TikTok.

Her current PhD research examines aspects of neoliberal subjectivity, the post-feminist sensibility, and reactionary feminism within spiritual wellness discourse, with a focus on how ‘feminine energy’ influencers use online platforms to reinforce contradictory narratives of empowerment and exclusion. She is particularly interested in exploring the intersections of New Age spirituality, wellness culture, online identity, and reactionary feminism.
