Staff Profile

  • Dr Montoya Martinez joined the University of Northampton in 2021 after creating a new business to support innovation in established firms. Her professional interests include supporting entrepreneurs and leaders in entrepreneurial ecosystems to transform business ideas into sustainable business that have the stamina to grow if desired. Her current modules at UON help students to provide skills needed not only for employability by also for self-employment in terms of soft skills such as time management and hard skills such as writing a business plan.

    Elizabeth is a part-time Partner Curriculum Leader in Entrepreneurship and Marketing. She holds a MSc in Management Engineering from Universidad Nacional de Colombia and a PhD in Management from the University of Edinburgh where she passed her viva without corrections, her PhD title is “Exploring knowledge and learning in New Technology-based Firms in early-stage Entrepreneurial Ecosystems.”

    Prior to academic career she worked for 7 years as a Project Manager in her hometown in Colombia, and she is preparing her PRINCE2 certification.

  • Elizabeth has expertise in teaching Mathematics, Physics, Entrepreneurship and Marketing at Undergraduate Level. She has also taught Entrepreneurship and Marketing at Postgraduate Level. And, although she is not currently teaching, she loves helping students to achieve their learning objectives and she still prepares material for teaching Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Marketing.

  • Elizabeth started doing research in 2002 with her Undergraduate Thesis in High Mountain Rivers’ Patterns and hasn’t stopped researching since then. She has a curious spirit, so she enjoys doing research. She is currently working actively to contribute to the field of entrepreneurship and is fascinated with understanding the role of successful entrepreneurial ecosystems in firm growth. Her work has been presented at conferences such as BABSON, RENT and BAM. Her forthcoming book as an chapter author and a co-editor is called “Entrepreneurial Ecosystems: Resource Acquisition, Flow and Management.”
