Staff Profile

  • Claire was training in a London teaching hospital. Her first job was on a surgical ward that specialised in vascular nursing and general surgery. After spending time as a Junior Sister, she then moved into Admission and Waiting List Management. This role also included an element of bed management. She moved into a team that worked alongside departments within the hospital and community to redesign their services; the aim being to make them more streamlined and efficient. Her next job was back in the acute setting as a Service Manager for Critical Care, which was more strategic as well as managing the departments within the directorate on a day-to-day basis. After a spell stateside, Claire returned to nursing to undertake the Return To Practice course and worked for 7 years in the private sector on the surgical wards. She moved to the university as an Associate Lecturer and transitioned into the team in 2023.

  • She works on the Nursing Associate team and in theme 2 for adult nursing. However, she supports theme 1 in an Associate Lecturer role. She also works with students in the Milton Keynes area when they are in the practice placements.

She enjoys all elements of teaching but particularly working with 1st years in small groups and one to one. She finds this rewarding as it is nice to form relationships and see the students grow throughout their education.

  • She is currently undertaking her Professional Doctorate and her research is “Is music an effective nurse leadership tool to improve the well-being of ward-based nurses?” She is due to finish this in January 2026.
