Would you believe this is part of my degree?

Funded trips

One thing that I could not believe was offered as part of my course, acting for contemporary and devised performance*, was a 4 week long trip to the South of France, that was fully funded by the University of Northampton!

What the trip consisted of

The funded field trip consisted of spending 4 weeks working on performing techniques and developing a performance to share in front of a local audience. All my fellow course mates took part in the upkeep of the gorgeous place we were staying in. They helped with the cooking and cleaning and we even made a rota so it was all split evenly. Also, during lunchtime or breaks, I was able to spend some time in the sun reading a book.

The experience

There were a couple who run the theatre company where we were staying. They were so lovely and supportive throughout the time away. I did get a little homesick whilst away and the couple helped calm me down and gave me some really helpful advice.

This trip took place at the end of my first year and I spent the 4 weeks in theatre workshops and on the weekends exploring the local area. 4 weeks in a different country learning about their creative programmes and learning new techniques, was such an amazing opportunity and a once in a lifetime experience. Even though it was a wonderful once in a lifetime chance, I would definitely leap at a chance to experience this again.

* We no longer offer this course, but please visit our Acting for Stage and Screen course to find out more.
