  3. Ruth Smith

  • Ruth is one of the Deputy Subject Leaders in Nursing leading on student experience and apprenticeships. She teaches across undergraduate nursing and nursing associate programmes.

    Ruth is a registered adult nurse with the NMC and has had a varied clinical career.  She has worked in Acute and Specialist General Medicine, Urology and Intensive Care in England and Scotland.  She has worked as a Nurse specialist as a Rapid Response Nurse seeing acutely unwell adult and children inpatients.   She has also been a ward sister.

    Ruth has a BSc(Hons) in Adult nursing, an MSc in Higher Professional Education and is a part time doctoral student.  She is an NMC Registered Teacher.

  • Ruth teaches on BSc Nursing and FdSc Nursing Associate.  She is particularly passionate about teaching through simulation and using the evidence base to explore clinical care.

  • Ruth is studying for her professional doctorate exploring the experiences of nursing associate apprentices non-supernumerary work-based learning.
