Dom studied for his first degree in English and Physical Education at Bulmershe College (now Reading University) and was awarded a B.Ed (Hons) with Qualified Teacher Status. He subsequently achieved National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) and gained a Distinction in his MA in Education at University of Northampton which included a thesis on the importance of the role of teaching assistants in promotingpupil wellbeing in schools, and followed this by gaining a PGCAP which included research reports on Microaffirmations and on Effective evaluation in Higher Education.
Dom’s t eaching has been mostly in primary education teaching in a range of schools in Surrey, Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire. During his time as a primary teacher, Dom has had many roles including English lead, Mathematics lead, Physical Education lead and Year lead, and was active in promoting extra-curricular opportunities, including founding and organising the largest school cross-country event in Northamptonshire, and organising inter-school cricket and girls’ football tournaments. Dom’s last post in primary teaching was as a Headteacher. He joined the Education, Children and Young People team at University of Northampton in 2014.
In his time at the University of Northampton, Dom has taught across a range of courses. He is currently the course lead for BA (Hons) Learning and Teaching (top-up), and is the Link Tutor for Assessment Only Route to QTS. He is a module leader and tutor on BA (Hons) Learning and Teaching (top-up), Foundation Degree Learning and Teaching, and is a tutor on Initial Teacher Training, currently teaching Mathematics and Geography on BA (Hons) Primary Education. Dom also teaches on Staff Development courses at University of Northampton and is an External Examiner at Bishop Lincoln University. He is an Advocate for Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and is part of the RSA Innovative Education Network.
