Staff Profile
Mrs Georgina
As University Librarian, George Dimmock oversees the five core areas that make up the library: Library Collections, University Archives, Library Systems, Academic Librarians, and Library Operations. Together, these teams provide resources and services to students, staff, and researchers across the university. They ensure access to both physical and online collections through specialist subject databases, the online reading list system, and the discovery tool NELSON. The library also offers a range of specialist services, including the Alternative Formats Service and Get It For Me, alongside embedded information skills support delivered by the Academic Librarian team. This support is continuously developed to meet the needs of an evolving information and digital landscape.
George has previously served on several national groups, including the JISC Transnational Education (TNE) Licensing Group (now the JISC TNE Lab), the JISC E-Textbook Strategy Group, the SCONUL Technology and Markets Strategy Group, and the JISC Expert Practitioners Group.
She holds an MSc in Information Science and is a Fellow of both CILIP and the Higher Education Academy.
Alongside academic staff and her library team, Georgina provides skills sessions to support students’ subject specific resource and information needs.
Georgina also teaches visual literacy to students on INS108 Information Management.
Georgina’s research interests include digital literacy, but in particular visual and media literacy and its link to graduate employability.
Previously she has received funding from ARLIS (Art Libraries Society UK) to undertake research into visual literacy, employability and the role of librarians.
She is also a member of the International Visual Literacy Association.
